About Me

Welcome to McAllister Piano Studio.  My name is Marty McAllister and I have been teaching  private lessons in my home studio for over 30 years.  Beginning young children, beginning adults, and more advanced students of all ages are welcome.   I enjoy working with individuals to create a sense of achievement and satisfaction through music.   My approach to lesson organization is explained further on the Piano Lessons page. Several openings remain for the classes beginning June 15th through June 19th Music Expressions classes for 5-6 year olds.  The classes are held from 11:00am to 12:30pm each day.  Please see the page for more details.
I grew up in Northern Indiana in a family of musicians and music enthusiasts.  My siblings and cousins were all studying piano and various other instruments.  It was an enriched musical environment with emphasis on routine practice, performance contests, and long term achievement.  During my Junior High and High School years I participated in musical theater, modern dance classes and solo and ensemble classes in both vocal and instrumental catagories.

I  played clarinet and was a majorette in the school band, played acoustic guitar and sang with several folk music groups in the 60′s.  I majored in Music Education at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a principle in voice and piano minor.   I taught in public schools for a very short time, and finding much more pleasure in teaching private lessons,  I have done so since 1980.   I have experience teaching all levels and ages in Dallas, Oklahoma and now Austin.

I enjoy becoming familiar with many types of individuals and finding some magic in music that touches them and keeps them wanting more from their personal musical experience.
