Austin Music Teacher

Special Events

During the school year, I present two recitals, a Holiday Recital and a Spring Recital.   Students play at least one piece, and may also elect to play a duet with a friend, parent or me.  The duets are a special addition to the performances and are very rewarding.

Another performance option is The National Guild Auditions, an event which has taken place each spring since 1929 in cities all across the United States.  Students who choose to participate play a number of memorized pieces for a judge.  They receive a certificate, report card and pin for their efforts. The challenge of memorizing as close to perfection as possible is a competition with oneself and gives back its own rewards.  Participation is encouraged in my studio. Please see the below for updated information about this year’s Guild Auditions.

Eighteen students who participated in the Guild Auditions on May 17th  and 24th  were recognized and presented pins, critique sheets and certificates. The following students played 2  memorized pieces for a judge: Luke, Ella, Madison, Elena, Malli, Evan, Camille, Vivienne, Nitin, Kalyani, and Avery.  These played 3 or 4 memorized pieces: Chinmay, Maggie, Aubrey, Boomer, and Tucker. One student, Noah, played 10 pieces. Every score was a Superior Minus or better. A job well done.

Austin District Music Teachers’ Association provides additional performance contests and venues, as well as a grade level state theory test twice a year.  Medals are awarded for qualifying test scores. Those receiving Gold Medals for this year’s theory test are John and Evan. Aubrey also received a theory test award.

All of these options serve to create an environment for learning, achievement, and confidence.
